Womanthology

If you’re in the comic world, follow comic news, or just follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably heard about Womanthology.  If not, then let me quickly explain– Womanthology is an anthology graphic novel started by artist Renae De Liz, and created entirely by women, including myself!  Although the book will be published by IDW, we’ve started a Kickstarter to raise funds to cover the printing costs, so that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go to charity.  We needed $25,000 to cover printing.  But, as of today, we’ve raised over $60,000! How cool is that?

I’m really proud to be a part of this project, and I cannot wait for you guys to see my four page story with art by the very talented Megan Brennan.  Although we’ve raised an enormous amount of money so far, I encourage you to pledge to Womanthology to help us raise $100k.  Renae has a lot of awesome plans for the money, including more books for libraries and schools, and even a second volume.  Plus, the prizes are awesome! $50 will get you a copy of the book, and believe me, you want a copy of this book.  Not only does it feature a story by a small-fry like myself, but it also features work by Gail Simone, Barbara Kesel, Annie Nocenti, Ming Doyle, Devin Grayson, Fiona Staples June Brigman, and many, many more.

The tentative release date for Womanthology is December 7th.  I’ll be sure to keep you updated!

I See Monsters

We know we’ve been a little lite on news over here at M+T, but that’s just because we’ve been working on a bunch of super secret projects! One, we’re quite proud of, is I See Monsters.  ISM is an all-ages one-shot that we’re getting ready for c2e2 2012. We’ve started an ISM page here with the synopsis and 3 pages of art. Be sure to check back for more updates!

Or, business as usual, yo.

Hope to see you there!

Scriptapalooza Results

Good news! The P.I. Jane TV Pilot was a semi-finalist in the 2011 Scriptapalooza TV contest! We’re pretty happy with that result, especially since this was our very first screenwriting contest.  We’ve entered the Jane pilot into three more competitions, along with Ambulance Chaser. And are expecting the results sometime in the Spring and Summer.

In the meantime, we‘re working on a fresh batch of television pilots for next year, along with a comic book mini-series and all kinds of other goodies.  And, as always, eagerly waiting by the telephone for our big break.

Waiting, wishing, hoping…

ScriptapaloozaTV 2010!

Hey, all…

Been awhile, I know.  Why?  Well, besides weekly postings at P.I. JANE (we wrapped up the first arc– go (re-)read it!), we’ve been crankin’ out TV pilots.  And other stuff.  Other crankable stuff.  Anyway, below, check out our 3 submissions to the 2010 ScriptapaloozaTV contest.  There’s Planet-X, our animated pilot (which was posted earlier, but below is a later draft); there’s the Americanized version of the P.I. Jane pilot (the other Jane pilot on here was BBC/UK-tailored); and Ambulance Chaser, a third series centering on Russ Malachi, pathetic personal injury attorney.

Note: Planet-X is meant for an [Adult Swim] audience, so the profanity is meant to be censored.

Bored? Give ‘em a read! Producer? Option and/or buy-and-produce ’em!

We got more comin’.  Gradually/Eventually.

Goings-On…

Hey, all… It’s been several months since we updated, so I thought I’d explain why.  See, we’ve been pretty busy with several projects at the moment which seems to have taken up our time.  Some of it will end up posted on here I’m sure, some on the Jane site, some may never see light of day, but here’s all the stuff currently in our respective hopper…

+  Continuing work on the P.I. Jane weekly strips (I’ve taken over lettering duties as well.  heh… duties…);  We’ll be writing the next story arc any day now, so we’re well in advance of posting (for art purposes)
+  Getting submission materials (art pages and supplementary documents) ready and assembled to send to publishers for the Jane comic books and/or graphic novels
+  Getting the submission docs ready and ‘packaging’ Planet-X for submission to [Adult Swim]
+  Writing another pilot, Ambulance Chaser
+  Fixing/rewriting the Jane pilot, Americanizing it (as opposed to our BBC-tailored draft)
+  Submitting the above 3 pilots to Scriptapalooza
+  Writing an as-yet untitled horror comedy screenplay (perhaps also for Scriptapalooza and/or other contests)
+  Outlining (and eventually writing) a new 3-issue (3-act) one-shot miniseries, The World Ends With Us.
+  We have a fundraiser going for the aforementioned art pages for Jane going on at the Jane site, as well (so there’s swag to deal with)
+  Generally procrastinating.  Wherever possible.
+  Watching lots of British TV (Sherlock, The IT Crowd, Skins, Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Thick of It, Coupling, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, etc).  And whatever else Lauren watches (which is considerable)

So that’s why we’ve been neglecting M+T for lo these past months.  We’ve been busy.

Well, most of the time, anyway…

Sicke & Tyerd: The Search for Mendoza

Here’s a film noir/buddy cop short we wrote a while back, and recently fixed up.  It’s got some jokes; it’s got a beginning, middle and end; it’s got the noir sensibility.  And if/when we shoot it, it’ll be a technical/visual showpiece.  But mostly we’re posting it here on the FILM page and now it’s ‘published’ somewhere and we’re legally protected.

Thanks, Internet!

Shameless Self-Promotion

Hi, everybody! (Hi, Dr. Nick)

Just wanted to take the opportunity to point you to our other site, P.I. JANE“What’s P.I. Jane,” you ask?  “Get out of my head,” you think?

Wait– I wanna try something…

Is… THIS your card?  Neat trick, huh?

Anyway, P.I. JANE is a weekly webcomic (updated Fridays) written by Lauren and myself and drawn/inked/colored/lettered by Tony Maldonado.  We originally planned this series as a comic book/graphic novel, and that’s still the plan.  But to get a little word of mouth going, we’ve created original stories for Jane that will act as a sort of prequel, that will lead directly into the first page of the issues we’ve already written.  We also adapted it as a pilot, tailored for the BBC, which we’ll Yankee-fy tuit de suite.  Check it out if you’re bored.  Or a successful producer.  Especially if you’re a successful producer.

When you click the link prior to our launch, you’ll see a character test page meant to pacify you until launch on APRIL 9TH.  There’s also a message quite similar to this one.  Give that a read, too, why don’tcha.

Why’s that?

Oh.  Well, that’s actually a pretty good reason.  Maybe you can read it later, then.  It tells you where to find some swag, so it’s worth it, IMHO.

There’s also the Cast Page and the About Us.  On that page, you can drop us a line– positive, negative, Swiss Neutral?  We just like getting mail.  You can also find us all (as well as Jane) on Twitter and Facebook (Jane’s not on Facebook yet.  A fan page will probably happen eventually).

Going to C2E2?  Let us know and we can meet up.  Please don’t stab/murder us.

Seacrest Out.

Reading, Watching, Writing update

I haven’t blogged for awhile, shame on me. In my defense, I just finished midterms. I’m also working on the P.I. Jane webcomic site and prepping for C2E2. Who wants a free button? Be on the lookout for for an official update in regards to our webcomic launch date. It’s coming soon…

Reading: I gotta step up my reading. I’ve been super slow. I’m currently focusing on the first trade of The Losers and reading through the archive of Wonderella, which I’m enjoying immensely.

Watching: So much. So, so, much. Keeping up with my usual weekly cocktail of Lost, Project Runway, 30 Rock and Community. But I’ve also been watching a shitload of movies. This past weekend I watched Synecdoche, New York, Iris,In The Loop, and Moon. I enjoyed all, but I have to say, In The Loop is the best movie I have seen in a long time. Peter Capaldi is great, but then again, I’m partial to foul-mouthed Scotsmen.

Writing: Finally finished the last scene of Planet X.  Script writing will be put on hold until after the Jane site is complete. Then, Greg and I will work on Planet X rewrites and a brand new film script.
